We went for our first hike with Hank on Saturday
We’re doing great! A bit sleep deprived, but great all the same. We’re adjusting well to life with Hank and he’s starting to learn the difference between day and night which *hopefully* means we’ll have a few longer stretches of sleep in the twilight hours soon…
As we have a tendency to be a bit verbose, we thought we’d let you know before we share how things are at our home, that we’re open to more visitors now. Please of course, call us to arrange a time/date so none of us are surpised, but we’d love to see you! Um, but if you’re ill or have been exposed to something major (avian flu, staph, having active cold sores, mad cow disease, ebloa etc.) please either refrain from visiting until you are well and/or let us know your health condition (admirers from afar are equally welcome). But of course that’s common sense and you all knew that anyway…SO, on to more fun stuff….
Hank had his 2 week check up with Dr. Travis (our pediatrician, we *love* him!!) last Friday (Nov. 7) and we learned that he is very healthy! Not only has he regained his birth weight (of 10#, 4 oz) which is a goal for newborns, he’s actually gained a bit and as of Friday weighed 10 pounds and 8 ounces! he’s also stretched out more and is now 22 inches long (he was 21.5 inches long at birth so either the nurses at the hospital measured incorrectly or he’s growing longer as he gets fuller). His jaundice has completely cleared up (yeah!) and he passed all his tests, while sleeping…that’s right, aside from a heel prick, he slept through his entire Dr. visit. Everyone kept commenting on what a content baby he is. We agree.
Hank seems to be growing so fast! He’s already almost out of his moses basket…when he stretches out, he actually hits all the sides! We’ve learned that when Hank wears certain brands of clothing (Carter’s in particular) he is already steadily into 3 month sizes! (others he’s still in 0-3, like pants, weird.) He doesn’t seem too keen on hats anymore (but we make him wear them when we go for walks anyway). He appears to love his mobiles and mirror (he regularly entertains himself after waking up before calling/crying to let us know he’s up/hungry), is consuming more food and consequently, goes through a considerable number of diapers. We’ve learned to make sure the “ruffles” on the diaper are all the way around his legs to prevent a blow out, to burp him regularly when he eats…that regular burping doesn’t always prevent spitting up, that absorbent burp cloths are 10 times better than the cute swatches of fabric commonly sold as burp cloths today (after several clothing changes, we’re really digging cloth diapers for burping now). we learned that its impossible to love your child too much and Hank adores cuddling, listening to stories and music and seems to adjust well to “strangers” presently. We’d love for you to come visit.
Hank wants YOU to come visit!
Cody tries to shake hands with Hank
Cody has finally decided Hank is okay (see photos below), even though Cody no longer gets to go on regular walks with us because of him (maybe he hasn’t put that together yet). We favor pushing a baby in the stroller or wearing him in the front carrier to being semi-dragged by a poweful animal (who stops, whines and then tries to run when he hears or sees other dogs) and haven’t had the courage/patience/endurance to try out combinations right now so we leave Cody at home. We’ve been enjoying walking every day which has been wonderful both for getting Hank in the fresh air and for Sarah’s recovery. speaking of that, Sarah had her 2 week incision check and all is going well. she goes back to the Dr. in about a month for another postpartum check up.
