First Trip to the Zoo

What a busy and wonderful weekend we just had! We went to Arlington to visit Tyler’s family and celebrate our niece, Ainsley’s birthday. It was also the first time we got to meet Micah (my best friend, Christiane, and her husband who is also Tyler’s cousin, Monty’s son) and several people met Hank for the first time as well.

Christiane and I decided to take the boys to the zoo on Friday. If you’ve never been to the Fort Worth Zoo, I highly recommend it. Its well kept and the animals seem happy which is always a good thing. The Austin Zoo is home to many rescue animals and even though I know its a wonderful home for them, I can’t help but find myself a bit depressed when I see the one eyed Cheetah there… Anyway, the Fort Worth Zoo… a great place to go with your little one and it was wonderful to go on a Friday morning, the only other people there were other parents and their children, lots of stroller pushing mothers. Hank and Micah seemed to have a good time, and they napped well together. I’m sure they’ll enjoy the zoo even more as they grow. Hank was fascinated by the fish tank in the “Australian Outback” section of the zoo. I think he would have happily stayed there all afternoon, or at least until he fell asleep again. He sleeps quite often, short, frequent naps.

He did NOT however, enjoy the Penguin exhibit. Perhaps it was because he was tired and fighting sleep, but the minute we walked inside the penguin house, he began crying. So we just walked right out the exit and he calmed down. Walter certainly enjoyed his special Grandad & Hank time and it was great to see them together.

On Saturday we went to Monty and Christiane’s house for breakfast and another visit with Micah. It seems at this moment in their lives, they are keen on napping at the same time which makes for some lovely photos.

Later that day we celebrated Ainsley’s birthday and saw many aunts and uncles and even visited with Hank’s Great-Grandmother, Granny. It was a great weekend, but it was very very busy so we’re definitely glad to be back home for now.
