After many months of anticipation, our son is here!!!
Henry Liam Buttrill (also known as Hank) was born at 11:55AM on Saturday October 25. Hank weighed 10 pounds 4 ounces and was 21 ½” long. The doctor joked, “Congratulations! Its a second grader! :)”. The nurse that was tasked with weighing him said “Good call on the C-Section”. She was trying to document him in some fashion but concluded he was off the charts. Anyway, Sarah is recovering well and we were allowed to leave the hospital Tuesday afternoon, so its nice to be back home where at least our couple hours of sleep are in a more comfortable bed.
The whole day was very exciting begining with Sarah’s water breaking 10 minutes before our alarm was set to go off to go to the hospital for our planned C-Section. It seems Hank chose his own birthday after all, which makes us very happy. 🙂 One really cool memory of his birth is that in the operating room, right after Hank was delivered, he was screaming and crying the whole time they were trying to do all their immediate medical stuff (taking care of the chord, removing fluids, making him presentable”, etc…) for several minutes. Anyway once they got him far enough along they brought him up to Sarah’s side of the curtain and held him up to her right by her face as he was still screaming. She said “Hello Hank, welcome to the world, I’m your mommy” and he immediately ceased crying and looked very much at peace. A lot of people in the operating room got choked up at that moment…um…not me (Tyler) though…I just had something in my eye 🙂 Another cool memory of that special day happened just after we first moved in to our mother/baby room, shortly after Sarah’s time in the recovery room, when she and Hank has some skin-to-skin time and they both fell asleep. It was beautiful and nothing else in the world mattered in that moment….we had many great moments that day and there doesn’t seem to be a shortage of them at all now. Hank is amazing and we’re thrilled and honored to be his parents!
Thanks so much to everyone for everything throughout Sarah’s pregnancy and those who visited us at the hospital and sent their good wishes and prayers our way. We’re happy to be at home getting used to our new family dynamic. Cody (our dog) doesn’t seem quite sure what to make of Hank just yet, but he doesn’t seem to mind him either. Perhaps he’s waiting to make a judgement (if dogs do such a thing) and seems to be respecting Hank’s space which is wonderful. We’re really enjoying having Hank in our family so far and are doing our best to adjust to all the new things and this stage of sleep deprivation in our lives. 🙂 We heard this before Hank was born and are now on the “its all worth it” bandwagon ourselves….it truly is all worth it.
Well, we should sign off for now. We just wanted to let you all know that Hank is here! And to let you know that things went well with his delivery, and are going well so far with Sarah’s recovery and our adjusting to this new season in our lives. We also thought you might like to see the main attraction so we attached a photo of Hank that Tyler took not long after his birth. We also attached some before and after photos…we hope you’re well and look forward to introducing Hank to you in person sometime. In the meantime, take care, have fun and enjoy the photos!
